Trichomycosis

Term formerly used to mean any disease of the hair caused by a fungus; now synonymous with trichonocardiosis or trichomycosis axillaris. In present usage, trichomycosis is a misnomer because the causative agent of the disease is a nocardia (an entity intermediate between fungus and bacterium) or Corynebacterium and not a true fungus.
